Junction Area

Craft Beer, Culture, and a Storied Past

About Junction Area

The Junction is one of Toronto's most vibrant neighbourhood success stories. Centred on Dundas Street West near Keele, this former railway hub was famously dry from 1904 until a local vote ended prohibition in 1998. The arrival of licensed restaurants and craft breweries after that watershed moment kicked off a cultural renaissance that has turned the Junction into one of the city's most exciting strips for dining, drinking, and independent retail. Today, Dundas West through the Junction hums with energy. Craft breweries like Junction Craft Brewing and Shacklands share the streetscape with vintage furniture shops, record stores, and chef-driven restaurants. The neighbourhood's handsome Edwardian storefronts and residential streets of bay-and-gable homes give it an architectural coherence that newer areas lack. Weekend strollers browse the Junction Flea market, and families gather in nearby Baird Park. Despite the buzz, the Junction retains a fiercely local sensibility; this is a neighbourhood that champions independent businesses over chains.
